Closed for the Season

Project Notes

In my series, I look at various towns around the Cape Cod area during the non-tourist months of the year. As fall begins, Cape Cod slowly gets quieter as the tourists leave. The beaches are abandoned, the ferry that runs to the adjacent islands shuts down, and houses are winterized. My project focuses on the quiet beauty that can be found throughout the Cape, from wide drone-shot landscapes to zoomed-in detail shots.

I chose this theme because I live part-time in Cape Cod. As I’ve grown up, I have found it fascinating that a place that hosts half a million people in the summer can feel so empty once fall begins. One artist who inspired me to tackle some of these panoramic images is photographer Gregory Crewdson. His images helped me frame my landscapes from being too cropped in camera, to having pictures with a vast point of view.

As someone views my work, I want to, one, highlight the beauty of fall and winter in a place that is known for its summer weather, and two, share somewhere I call home with others.
