Drawing? Me? Yep.

So here’s something I didn’t see coming when I signed up for Design 100 at SCAD: I’d be drawing. A lot.

And not like doodling-in-the-margins kind of drawing. Real stuff. Technical, observational, figure-based drawing. It’s been terrifying and kind of awesome at the same time. I’ve never really thought of myself as someone who could draw—my comfort zone is behind the camera, not holding a pencil. But here I am, staring down sketchpads and trying to make lines that actually look like something.

What’s wild is seeing how good some of the other students are. Seriously next-level talent. It’s intimidating, but also really inspiring. I’ve started using photography to guide some of my pieces, using reference shots I’ve taken to help break things down—light, shape, structure. It’s been a great bridge between what I know and what I’m trying to learn.

It’s not easy (at all), but I’m starting to get the hang of it. And even when my drawings look like weird potatoes, I know I’m getting better. Slowly. One sketch at a time.
